Mahindra & Mahindra, the prominent automotive manufacturer, recently made an announcement regarding the launch of the 5-door Thar in India. Originally slated for a 2023 release, the company's Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (Auto and Farm Sector), Rajesh Jejurikar, confirmed during the Q4 and FY23 financial results announcement that the 5-door Thar will now hit the market in 2024.
A new spy image of the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door has surfaced, shared by an Instagram user with the handle "the_reels_news." The image provides a sneak peek at one notable feature that is sure to capture the attention of prospective buyers - an electric sunroof.
It is worth noting that the current 3-door Thar model available in India does not offer an electric sunroof as a feature.
In addition to the electric sunroof, the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to come with a standard hard top, distinguishing it from the 3-door Thar, which offers both convertible top and hard top options.
Earlier this year, Mahindra introduced the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant of the 3-door Thar. Initially launched in October 2020, the SUV came equipped with standard four-wheel drive (4WD).
The 3-door Thar is currently available with three engine options: a 1.5-liter D117 CRDe diesel engine generating 117bhp and 300Nm of torque, a 2.2-liter mHawk 130 CRDe diesel engine producing 130bhp and 300Nm of torque, and a 2.0-liter mStallion 150 TGDi petrol engine delivering 150bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 1.5-liter diesel engine is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter petrol engines are available with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
While the prices for the 3-door Thar range from Rs 10,54,500 to Rs 16,77,501 (ex-showroom), it is expected that the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door will come with a premium price tag, potentially increasing by up to Rs 2 lakh.
